The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This has been happening all along. 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
