The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
