The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
