The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
