The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
