Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
