The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
