Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
