Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So fear Allah, and obey me. 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
