Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
