The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
