The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 Within gardens and springs 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
