Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
