The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
