The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
