The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 Their brother Salih asked them, "Why do you not fear God? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
