[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 When Shu'aib said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 177 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 178 So fear Allah, and obey me. 179 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ "Maintain just measure in your business and do not cause loss to others. 181 and [in all your dealings] weigh with a true balance, 182 Wrong not mankind in their goods, and do not evil, making mischief, in the earth. 183 Fear Him who created you, and the generations of the ancients.' 184 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 185 You are but a human like ourselves, we think that you are one of the liars. 186 Then drop down on us lumps from heaven, if thou art one of the truthful.' 187 (Shu'aib) said: "My Lord knows well what you are doing." 188 They rejected him and then the torment of the gloomy day struck them. It was certainly a great torment. 189 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 190 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 191
