And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 trustworthy divine inspiration has alighted with it from on high 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 Truly, it is in the Books of the ancients. 196 Was it not a sign for them known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 If We had sent it down on a barbarian 198 In order that he read it to them, even then they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so We have caused it to enter into the hearts of the sinners, 200 they shall not believe in it until they see the painful punishment 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited' 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 Seest thou? If We do let them enjoy (this life) for a few years, 205 and thereupon that [chastisement] which they were promised befalls them 206 what will it then avail them, the enjoyment of days they were given? 207 And never did We destroy a township, but it had its warners 208 To advise; and We never oppress. 209 It was not the satans who brought it down: 210 nor does it behove them, nor does it lie in their power. 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished. 213 And warn thy clan, thy nearest kin. 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they do not obey you, tell them: "I am not responsible for what you do." 216 And put your trust in Him Who is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate, 217 who sees you when you stand 218 or move during your prostration with the worshippers. 219 For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the Satans come down? 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Do you not see how they wander aimlessly in every valley, 225 And that they say what they do not do? - 226 Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who do wrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned! 227
