Truly, it is the sending of the Lord of the Worlds. 192 the Faithful Spirit has brought it down 193 upon thy heart, that thou mayest be one of the warners, 194 in the clear Arabic tongue. 195 And verily it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 But [even] had We bestowed it from on high upon any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had read it unto them, even then they would not have been believers therein. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter the hearts of the sinners. 200 they will not believe in it till they behold the grievous suffering 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 and they will say, 'Shall we be respited?' 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 Think! If We let them enjoy life for some years, 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 for a reminder; and never did We wrong. 209 And it is not the Shayatin (devils) who have brought it (this Quran) down, 210 They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it. 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 So call not on any other god with Allah, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!" 216 and place thy trust in the Almighty, the Dispenser of Grace, 217 who sees thee when thou standest [alone,] 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 He is all-hearing and all-knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every lying, sinful one, 222 They listen, but most of them are liars. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 Do you not see that they wander about bewildered in every valley? 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Not so the true believers who do good works and remember God with fervour and defend themselves only after they are wronged. The wrongdoers will soon know how evil a turn their affairs will take. 227
