Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 Which the True Spirit hath brought down 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 In plain Arabic language. 195 Its news was also mentioned in the ancient Books. 196 Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 But [even] had We bestowed it from on high upon any of the non-Arabs, 198 And had he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty. 200 They will not believe in it until they clearly see the grievous chastisement. 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 and then they will exclaim, "Could we have a respite?" 203 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 204 Therefore observe, that if We give them some comforts for some years, – 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 We have never been unjust to anyone. 209 The devils did not bring it down. 210 it is not for them, nor are they able. 211 Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it. 212 So call not thou unto another god along with Allah, lest thou be of the doomed. 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee. 215 Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do." 216 And rely thou upon the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray) 218 and when you turn among those who prostrate themselves. 219 Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Should I tell you on whom the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every sinful liar. 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. 224 Have you not seen them wandering and bewildered in every valley 225 preaching what they do not practice. 226 Except those who believe and do the right, and remember God a great deal, who retaliate only when they have been wronged. Yet the oppressors will now come to know through what reversals they will be overthrown! 227
