The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In a nearer land; and they, after the overcoming of them, shall soon overcome. 3 All matters of the past and future are in the hands of God. The believers will enjoy the help of God on that Day. 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whom He pleases; and He is the Mighty, the Merciful; 5 (It is) a Promise of Allah (i.e. Allah will give victory to the Romans against the Persians), and Allah fails not in His Promise, but most of men know not. 6 They know the outward of this world's life, but of the hereafter they are absolutely heedless. 7 Have they not inwardly pondered – that Allah has not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and a fixed term? And indeed many people deny the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. 10
