The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 In a few years (less than ten). God's is the imperative first and last. On that day the believers will rejoice 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 It is a promise of Allah. Allah faileth not His promise, but most of mankind know not. 6 They know only the outside appearance of the life of the world (i.e. the matters of their livelihood, like irrigating or sowing or reaping, etc.), and they are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Have they not thought that God has not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them but for a genuine purpose to exist for an appointed term? Many people do not believe in their meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not journeyed in the land and observed what wise hath been the end of those before them? They were stronger than they in power and they broke up the earth and they inhabited it with greater affluence than these have inhabited it, and their apostles came unto them with evidences. And Allah was not one to wrong them, but themselves they were wont to wrong. 9 The end of the evil-doers was terrible, for they had rejected the revelations of God and mocked them. 10
