The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In a near land, and they, after being vanquished, shall overcome, 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 in God's succour: [for] He gives succour to whomever He wills, since He alone is almighty, a dispenser of grace. 5 This is Allah's promise and He does not go back on His promise. But most people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. 7 Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord. 8 Have they not journeyed in the land and observed what wise hath been the end of those before them? They were stronger than they in power and they broke up the earth and they inhabited it with greater affluence than these have inhabited it, and their apostles came unto them with evidences. And Allah was not one to wrong them, but themselves they were wont to wrong. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
