The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been conquered 2 in a land close by. But, after their defeat they shall become the victors. 3 In a few years (less than ten). God's is the imperative first and last. On that day the believers will rejoice 4 in God's succour: [for] He gives succour to whomever He wills, since He alone is almighty, a dispenser of grace. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; 6 They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than these in prowess, and dug up the earth, and built on it in greater abundance than these have built on it, and there came to them their apostles with clear arguments; so it was not beseeming for Allah that He should deal with them unjustly, but they dealt unjustly with their own souls. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them. 10
