۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 Are we not then to die 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
