۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Then, are we not to die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
