۞ Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 Ye are requited naught save what ye did - 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 Allah will say: will ye look down? 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 They found their father going astray 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
