۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in gardens of bliss, 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 Are we then not to die 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For such a reward should the workers perform. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
