۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 "It was you who tried to mislead us from righteousness". 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers. 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire. 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 yet they run in their footsteps, 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
