۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 in the Gardens of Bliss 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Then, are we not to die 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 for, behold, they found their forebears on a wrong way, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
