۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 Certainly, that is how We deal with Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners, criminals, the disobedient to Allah, etc.). 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 What, do we then not die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
