۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” – 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
