۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 The statement of Our Lord is realized against us, and we are tasting it, 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
