۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 yet they run in their footsteps, 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
