۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned." 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
