۞ (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 and advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
