Noah had called upon Us (earlier). See, how excellent We were in answering him! 75 And We delivered him and his people from the great distress, 76 And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth] 77 and left for him among the later folk 78 Peace on Noah among all men. 79 Verily, thus We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers - see V. 2:112). 80 for he was truly one of our believing servants: 81 We then drowned the others. 82 ۞ And indeed Ibrahim is from his (Nooh’s) group. 83 When he came unto his Lord with a whole heart; 84 and asked his father and his people, "What is that you worship? 85 A lie-- gods besides Allah-- do you desire? 86 What do you think about the Lord of the Universe?" 87 Then he looked up at the stars (they worshipped), 88 and said, "Verily, I am sick [at heart]!" 89 and at that they turned their backs on him and went away. 90 and he turned to their idols and asked them, "Do you eat? 91 What aileth ye that ye speak not? 92 He struck them with his right hand. 93 whereupon people came to him running. 94 He answered: "Do you worship something that you [yourselves] have carved, 95 Whereas Allah hath created you and that which ye make? 96 They said: Build for him a furnace, then cast him into the burning fire. 97 And they devised a plot for him, but We made them the humble. 98 He said, 'I am going to my Lord; He will guide me. 99 Lord, grant me a righteous son." 100 We gave him the good news that he would have a patient, forbearing son. 101 And when he attained to working with him, he said: O my son! surely I have seen in a dream that I should sacrifice you; consider then what you see. He said: O my father! do what you are commanded; if Allah please, you will find me of the patient ones. 102 When they both agreed and Abraham had lain down his son on the side of his face (for slaughtering), 103 We called to him, "O Abraham, 104 thou hast already fulfilled [the purpose of] that dream-vision!" Thus, verily, do We reward the doers of good: 105 That was indeed a trying test. 106 And We rescued him in exchange of a great sacrifice. (The sacrifice of Ibrahim and Ismail – peace be upon them – is commemorated every year on 10, 11 and 12 Zil Haj). 107 And We left for him among the posterity: 108 Peace be with Abraham. 109 Thus do We reward the good. 110 Surely he was one of Our believing servants. 111 Then We gave him the good tidings of Isaac, a Prophet, one of the righteous. 112 And We blessed him and Isaac. Among the offspring of the two some did good and some plainly wronged themselves. 113
