Jonah was certainly a Messenger. 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Then bring your book, if you are truthful. 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 “And indeed we, with our wings spread, await the command.” 165 We glorify God." 166 And surely they used to say: 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace upon the messengers. 181 and praise belongs to God, the Lord of all Being. 182
