And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard). 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 he would have lingered in its belly till the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels females, to which they were witnesses? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 We glorify God." 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 We have already given Our promise to Our Messengers 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And (then) see them, so they too shall see. 175 Then for Our punishment are they impatient? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while, 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182
