And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We made a gourd tree grow over him. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Is it not of their own calumny that they say, 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Then bring your book, if ye say sooth. 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 We glorify God." 166 What though they would say, 167 Had we but an admonition as had the ancients. 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 Yet they disbelieve therein. Presently they shall come to know. 170 for, long ago has Our word gone forth unto Our servants, the message-bearers, 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
