So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 And a fish swallowed him, and he was reproaching himself. 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Is it not of their own calumny that they say, 151 "God has begotten [a son]"; and verily, they are lying [too, when they say,] 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except the bondmen of Allah sincere. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 and we glorify God". 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 If we had but a reminder from the men of old 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
