And verily Yunus was of the sent ones. 139 when he fled like a runaway slave onto a laden ship. 140 And then they cast lots, and he was the one who lost; 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)? 150 It is only because of their false invention that they say, 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 What, and will you not remember? 155 Or have you, perchance, a clear evidence [for your assertions]? 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Except the one who will go into the blazing fire. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]. 165 We glorify God." 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.” 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 That they would be helped, 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
