Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, 141 Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy. 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill. 145 and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Why do you not reflect? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Then bring your book, if you are truthful. 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 But not so the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 160 neither you nor what you worship 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 we are those who stand ranged in ranks. 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 we would certainly be true servants of God." 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 And that Our host, they verily would be the victors. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 And leave them for a time. 178 and see; soon they shall see! 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
