And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. 139 He abandoned his people 140 Then lots were drawn and he became of those who were pushed into the sea. 141 So the whale swallowed him, for he was blameworthy, 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship, 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 And most surely we are they who draw themselves out in ranks, 165 We glorify God." 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 Then for Our punishment are they impatient? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 And leave them for a time. 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
