Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 then the whale swallowed him down, and he blameworthy. 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 AND NOW ask them to enlighten thee: Has thy Sustainer daughters, whereas they would have [only] sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have ye an authority manifest? 156 Bring your Book, if what you say is true! 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 can lure away from God any 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 What, would they then say: 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 for, long ago has Our word gone forth unto Our servants, the message-bearers, 171 will certainly be victorious 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Glory be to thy Lord, the Lord of Glory, above that they describe! 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
