Allah takes away souls at the time of their death (the temporary death of sleep), and those who do not die during their sleep He withholds that upon which He has decreed death, but turns lose the other till a stated term. Surely, there are signs in this for a nation who contemplate. 42 Have they appointed intercessors other than God? Say: "Even though they have no power in the least, nor do they understand?" 43 Say thou: Allah's is intercession altogether. His is the dominion of the heavens and the earth; then unto Him shall ye be returned. 44 And when Allah the One God is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter get constricted; and when others (false deities) besides Him are mentioned, they rejoice! 45 Say, "O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, You will judge between your servants concerning that over which they used to differ." 46 On the Day of Resurrection, if the harmdoers owned all that is in the earth and as much again besides, they would offer it to ransom themselves from the evil of the punishment. From Allah will come to them that with which they had never reckoned, 47 the evil of their deeds will become apparent to them, and they will be overwhelmed by that which they used to mock. 48 When some affliction visits a man, he calls unto Us; then, when We confer on him a blessing from Us, he says, 'I was given it only because of a knowledge.' Nay, it is a trial, but most of them do not know it. 49 People who lived before them had also said, "Our wealth has been earned by our own merits." What they had earned was of no benefit to them 50 in that the evils of that they earned smote them. The evildoers of these men, they too shall be smitten by the evils -- of that they earned; they will not be able to frustrate it. 51 Know they not that Allah enlargeth providence for whom He will, and straiteneth it (for whom He will). Lo! herein verily are portents for people who believe. 52
