Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth: 2 We have made it an Arabic reading text so that perhaps you may understand. 3 And the Qur’an is undoubtedly, in the Original Book with Us, surely the exalted, full of wisdom. 4 Can We ignore sending you the Quran just because you are a transgressing people? 5 And how many a prophet did We send to people of olden times! 6 Yet never did a Prophet come to them but they mocked him. 7 We therefore destroyed the people who were more forceful than these, and the example of the earlier ones has already gone by. 8 And if thou askest them: who hath created the heavens and the earth? they will surely say: created them the Mighty, the Knower. 9 He Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and made in it ways for you that you may go aright; 10 He Who sent down water from the sky in a determined measure, and thereby We revived a dead land: likewise will you be raised up (from the earth) -- 11 and who created the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you ships and cattle such as you ride, 12 So that you may properly mount their backs, and may remember your Lord’s favour when you have mounted them, and say, “Purity is to Him, Who has given this ride in our control, and we did not have the strength for it.” 13 And surely to our Lord we must return. 14 The pagans have considered some of His servants as His children. There is no doubt that the human being is simply ungrateful. 15
