And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) said to his father and his people: "Verily, I am innocent of what you worship, 26 None [do I worship] but Him who has brought me into being: and behold, it is He who will guide me!" 27 This is the legacy he left to his descendants so that they may turn (to God). 28 I gave them and their fathers days of enjoyment until the truth and a clear Messenger came to them. 29 And when the Truth came to them they said: “This is just sorcery and we reject it.” 30 They say: “Why was this Qur'an not sent down upon some great man from the two (main) cities?” 31 Is it they who apportion the mercy of your Lord? It is We who distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and raise some of them above others in rank, so that they may take one another into service; and the mercy of your Lord is better than [the wealth] which they amass. 32 Were it not that all mankind would become a single community (and follow the same way), We would have provided for all those who disbelieve in the Merciful One silver roofs for their houses, and (silver) stairs on which to go up, 33 with doors to their houses and couches on which to recline; 34 and gold, surely, all this is but the enjoyment of this present life. The Everlasting Life with your Lord is for those who fear (Him). 35
