And indeed We did send Musa (Moses) with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs (inviting them to Allah's Religion of Islam) He said: "Verily, I am a Messenger of the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 46 But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them. 47 And not a sign We showed them, but it was greater than its sister sign; and We seized them with chastisement, that haply they should return. 48 And they said, 'Sorcerer, pray to thy Lord for us by the covenant He has made with thee, and surely we shall be right-guided.' 49 Yet no sooner did We take away the affliction from them than they broke their pledge. 50 The Pharaoh shouted to his people, "My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine? and can you not see that the streams flow from beneath my palace? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible man who can hardly make his meaning clear: 52 "And then - why have no golden armlets been bestowed on him? or why have no angels come together with him?" 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 When at length they provoked Us, We exacted retribution from them, and We drowned them all. 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
