And indeed We sent Moosa along with Our signs towards Firaun and his chieftains – he therefore said, “Indeed I am a Noble Messenger of the Lord of the Creation.” 46 When he showed them Our miracles, they started to laugh at them. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided." 49 But whenever We removed the suffering from them, lo! they would break their word. 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 Am I better or this contemptible man who is scarcely able to express himself? 52 Why have bracelets of gold not been given to him and why have some angels not accompanied him?" 53 In this way he fooled his people and they obeyed him: they were a rebellious people. 54 But when they roused Our anger We inflicted retributive punishment and drowned them all, 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
